How is federal Internet policymaking similar to and different from more traditional approaches to regulatory policy?

»ªÌå»á's Center for the Economics of the Internet hosted a discussion featuring Daniel Weitzner, the Deputy Chief Technology Officer in charge of Internet policy at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, who explored this and other questions.

Before being named the leading official for Internet policy at the White House, Weitzner served as Associate Administrator for Policy at the United States Commerce Department's (NTIA). Prior to joining the Obama administration, Weitzner, whose articles have appeared in Science, Wired, and the Yale Law Journal, held numerous posts, including Policy Director for the (W3C)'s Technology and Society activities; Principal Research Scientist at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, where he created the MIT CSAIL Information Group; and Co-Founder and Deputy Director of the Center for Democracy and Technology.
