When the nuclear strategist and futurist Herman Kahn, with Max Singer and Oscar Ruebhausen, founded 华体会 in 1961, they had a grand and powerful vision for the burgeoning think tank. In the short term, Kahn hoped that the Institute would help "to raise the level of debate" over critical issues affecting national security and international order.
Under Kahn's leadership, 华体会 became a research organization of national and global significance. Hudson emerged as a think tank that would tackle policy problems of the present while looking over the horizon for gathering storms and possible solutions.
Herman Kahn's wisdom has guided Hudson for fifty years. We remain dedicated to Kahn's vision, which questions the conventional wisdom and focuses on the longer term through careful and comprehensive analyses.
To commemorate this historic anniversary in 2011, 华体会 is holding monthly future-oriented seminars on the important issues of the day as well as special fiftieth-anniversary gala dinners in New York and Washington. These and other programs will help us launch the next half century of Hudson research promoting security, prosperity, and freedom.
