Early this year, the U.S., Canada, EU, and United Kingdom announced the imposition of coordinated sanctions on two Chinese officials who orchestrated the Uyghur genocide. In retaliation, China sanctioned several lawmakers who have called for an end to the campaign against the Uyghur people, in a clear effort to dissuade political leaders from taking a strong stance on Chinese human rights violations.
