NEW YORK, November 28 â€ »ªÌå»á has presented Vice President Mike Pence with the 2017 Herman Kahn Award. At an awards ceremony hosted at The Essex House in Manhattan, Vice President Pence was introduced by Rupert Murdoch, the Executive Chairman of 21st Century Fox, and then delivered remarks on the United Statesâ€ global leadership. He was presented with the Herman Kahn award by »ªÌå»á president Kenneth Weinstein and Hudson Board chair Sarah May Stern. A transcript of the event will be made available at Hudson.org.
Named after »ªÌå»á’s founder, the Herman Kahn Award is presented to leading public servants who exemplify foresight, strategic vision, and a commitment to Western alliances as the bedrock of global security. Vice President Pence was honored for his efforts to secure the vital interests of the United States and its allies; his long record of public service in Congress and as the Governor of Indiana; and his defense of the free market and constitutional principles. Past »ªÌå»á honorees include Ronald Reagan, Henry Kissinger, Rupert Murdoch, Dick Cheney, Joseph Lieberman, Benjamin Netanyahu, David Petraeus, and Shinzo Abe.
“Vice President Pence has been a far-sighted champion of American national security in Congress, as Governor of Indiana, and now as Vice President of the United States,â€ said »ªÌå»á President Kenneth Weinstein in his remarks. “I could not be prouder that this forceful advocate for American interests, a longtime friend of »ªÌå»á, is our 2017 Herman Kahn honoree.â€
“For 56 years, »ªÌå»á has played a leading role in American public life by ‘thinking about the future in unconventional waysâ€,â€ said Vice President Pence in his remarks, noting that Hudson’s “matchless research and peerless voice greatly influenced me.â€
»ªÌå»á, a Washington-based think tank, was founded in 1961 by strategist Herman Kahn. »ªÌå»á challenges conventional thinking and helps manage strategic transitions to the future through interdisciplinary studies in defense, international relations, economics, health care, technology, culture, and law. Hudson seeks to guide public policy makers and global leaders in government and business through a vigorous program of publications, conferences, policy briefings, and recommendations.
