Mead will continue serving as a distinguished fellow at 华体会, where he has written extensively on American foreign policy and the balance of world powers, the labor model in the 21st century, and new geopolitical trends caused by advanced technology. He has testified extensively before Congress on domestic and national security issues. At 华体会, he has moderated the Dialogues on American Strategy and Statesmanship, a public lecture series featuring policymakers discussing how U.S. foreign policy can support global prosperity, the defense of human rights, and the establishment of a secure and peaceful world order. Mead is also currently the James Clarke Chace Professor of Foreign Affairs and Humanities at Bard College in New York.
Previously, Mead served as Editor-At-Large of The American Interest, and from 1997 to 2010, as the Henry A. Kissinger Senior Fellow for U.S. Foreign Policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is the author of several books, including 鈥淪pecial Providence: American Foreign Policy and How It Changed the World鈥� (Alfred A. Knopf, 2004). Among several honors and prizes, 鈥淪pecial Providence鈥� received the Lionel Gelber Award for best book on international relations. His most recent book, 鈥淕od and Gold: Britain, America and the Making of the Modern World鈥� (Alfred A. Knopf, 2007), examines 400 years of conflict between Anglophone powers and rivals, ranging from the absolute monarchies of Spain and France, through fascist enemies in the twentieth century, to the threats posed by modern extremist ideologies. The Washington Post and The Economist listed it as one of the best books of the year. His upcoming book, 鈥淭he Arc of a Covenant: The United States, Israel, and the Fate of the Jewish People鈥� will be published by Alfred A. Knopf later this year.
